Welcome Back Professor Willey!

Welcome Back Professor Willey!

This week has seen the phased return of Managing Director, Prof Roger Willey, who had major surgery back in November.

Anyone who knows Roger will know that he is an extraordinarily hard-working man dedicated to his work at ACS. It might not be surprising that during his recuperation period, he did not sit with his feet up...

In January, Roger spoke at the annual Bourne Leisure Health & Safety Conference at Thoresby Hall, Nottingham.  Roger’s topic was Asbestos Management in Large Companies in the 21st Century. The session was attended by Directors, Senior Managers and Health & Safety representatives from all Bourne Leisure sites in the UK (see picture with Trevor Bateson, Head of Safety Services at Bourne Leisure [left], and Roger [right]).

Roger has also acted as Scientific Expert Witness in a major case heard at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. This case has been ongoing for over a year, yet Roger’s operation did not prevent him from travelling down to London to attend the court case. Roger has acted as Expert Witness in over 500 cases to date in a range of courts but this was his first appearance at the Royal Courts – he tells us it was quite a daunting experience.

This spring, Roger started his annual lectures at Strathclyde University on the post graduate Environmental Health Programme. His module on Physical Risk is always very well received by the Environmental Health Officers of tomorrow.

What is he going to do when he is back at work full time?
